Gamers often create unique couple dynamics, with one person either watching the other play, playing their own games, or tagging along in online co-op games. But the co-op genre is extremely vast, with some games designed for two people to work together to complete missions, solve puzzles, or reach the end of the game. These games are a great opportunity for couples to play together while focusing on teamwork, creativity, and communication. Let’s check out two of the most popular co-op games for couples, It Takes Two and Overcooked, and get ready to dive into your next adventure together!
It Takes Two
It Takes Two is a co-op action-adventure game developed by Hazelight Studios and published by EA for PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in March 2021. The Nintendo Switch version came out over a year later, in November 2022, and is arguably the most popular platform to play it on. It won Game of the Year in 2021 and continues to be an extremely popular game for couples looking for a teamwork challenge. The game is only playable with two people, meaning it does not have a single-player mode, as the story focuses on a couple working through their differences and mending their relationships.
As a split-screen game, it incorporates elements from platform games to make it easier for players to follow along. But it does combine other video game mechanics such as power-ups and special abilities that allow you to progress through certain levels. It also includes a variety of minigames to add to the depth of the fun. Though the game is intended to be a fun challenge, it also addresses the seriousness of divorce in a family and the struggles couples face when they’re lacking in communication. As this game requires strong communication to succeed, it’s a great way for couples to think deeper about their relationship without directly experiencing the trials and tribulations of divorce. By the end of the game, your bonds will be strengthened and you’ll both feel a strong sense of accomplishment. It’s time to face challenges together, get It Takes Two for the Switch today!

Overcooked
Overcooked is a cooking simulation game from Ghost Town Games, published by Team17 back in August of 2016 for the PS4, PC, and Xbox One. A Switch version came out in July 2017 and the sequel, Overcooked 2, came out in 2018. Both games had great success, prompting the publisher to release a bundle called All You Can Eat with remastered versions of both games, bringing the game to newer consoles and newer players. With the goal of the game to work together as Chefs in a fast-paced kitchen, the game challenges your communication and reaction times in a fun way.
The game does offer single-player mode, but you’re required to control two chefs, which is why the game is strongly considered to be co-op. The creator of the game previously worked in a kitchen where he based the game, creating an immersive experience that replicated the high-paced and intense environment that the kitchen usually is. Though the Switch was the last to receive a version of the game, it was designed to support the Switch’s HD rumble feature. It also had two DLC packs release, The Lost Morsel and Festive Seasoning, which added more challenges for players. Are you ready for the intense challenge of being a chef with your SO? It’s time to put your chef’s hat on and take each order with the gusto of a 5-star chef, get both games today!
